Our Speaker
Jonathan Hayes will be hosting our tour of the Royal Canadian Mint.  He is the Director of Manufacturing and his been with the Mint for approximately 14 years.  Jonathan began in the Engineering Department, and eventually moved into Operations Management. He attended the University of Manitoba where he earned a Degree in Mechanical Engineering and MBA.  He is a married father of two and coaches his kids in hockey and basketball.
The Presentation
The Royal Canadian Mint’s head office is located in Ottawa.  The Winnipeg plant opened in 1976, and is responsible for the manufacturing and distribution of all Canadian circulation coins.  They also produce coins for over 80 countries around the world.
In order to improve efficiency and competitiveness, the Mint is focused on Continuous Improvement, and embraces Lean Manufacturing as a methodology to reduce waste and drive efficiency.  Tools such as huddle boards, one piece flow, and visual management will be on display during the tour.
There will be an evening shift working.  Safety glasses and hearing protection will be supplied.  Please wear steel-toed shoes if possible.  Otherwise, please wear close-toed, flat shoes, (no high heels).  When we enter the plant for the tour, you may not bring any metal items into the plant (Rings, jewelry, coins, cell phones, cameras, etc…). They recommend not bringing these items to the Plant.  If you do bring them, they will need to be left in the presentation room before going on the tour.
