The Presentation

 This presentation will provide a crash course on the non-technical aspects of the engineering design process. After this course, you will be able to employ strategies to make the most of client interactions, as well as develop strategies to recognize and mitigate potential problems in the design process.

 

Our Speaker

 David Chuang has been involved in SAE professional activities for 28 years, joining UMSAE when in first-year engineering. David graduated from the University of Manitoba in 2003 with a Mechanical Engineering degree and has been involved in various segments of mobility and manufacturing industries for over 20 years.

 

In that time David has been involved in the complete engineering design lifecycle; covering initial concept, design & prototyping, test & validation, and production. David has interacted with both internal and external clients during the design lifecycle; his past positions have covered design, manufacturing, and testing of power sports vehicles, heavy vehicle chassis, agricultural machinery, and mobile electronics.

 

David has been a part of the National Research Council Canada since 2011 as a Test & Evaluation Engineer based in Ottawa; focusing on the testing of heavy truck, bus, and light vehicle platforms in support of NRC's mobility mandate. In 2020, David transferred to Winnipeg to support the standing up of NRC’s new Advanced Manufacturing Research Facility as a mechatronics engineer; focusing on process integration and automation for additive manufacturing.

 

As an active member of SAE, David participates on several SAE Standards Committees and has recently sponsored a major revision to J1952, All-Wheel Drive Systems Classification; which was updated to include hybrid and full-electric AWD architectures and their definitions.
