…Our Speaker…
Ross Metcalfe is a self professed long time antique motorcycle and old car “nut”.  He comes by it honestly, having grown up in a family where old cars were a passion.  Now retired from being a teacher/principal/school superintendent, he travels all over, checking out museums, attending swap meets, collecting and restoring old motorcycles the rest of the time.  At present, he has about twenty bikes in his collection – including the 1938 Indian Junior Scout which is the focus of this presentation.  Ross was founder of the Antique Motorcycle Club of Manitoba in 1977, and is a past president of the Manitoba Classic and Antique Auto Club.  See more about his passion for motorbikes at his web site.

…His Presentation…
Would you believe that an “slightly modified” antique 500 cc flathead powered Indian motorbike could do 95 MPH?  What’s the likelihood of surviving frame failure at this speed, bringing it safely to a stop?  How about a short time later, having the same rider take the same machine out on the Bonneville Salt Flats to become the AMA Modified Vintage Gasoline (MVG) land speed record holder?  Well, Ross and his hand-picked team of antique motorbike enthusiasts did just that.  Come and hear the stories of the triumphs, the heartaches, the thrills and the spills.  The bike itself is on display in the museum, so you can of course check it out too!
…Location…
Jim’s Vintage Garages is located at 5353 Portage Ave., in Headingley across from Nick’s Inn.  See map on reverse.  It’s approximately 8 minutes west of the perimeter on Portage Avenue.
